Rod joined IBE as President and CEO in 2014. Prior to this he spent 38 years working as a reporter, newspaper editor and television news executive. He worked for The Idaho Statesman for 14 years, serving as Political Editor and Editorial Page Editor and columnist. He spent 10 years as Executive News Director at KTVB, including moderating the Viewpoint public affairs program. He was also Executive News Director at the NBC station in Portland, Oregon and most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Bay News 9, a 24-hour news station in Tampa Bay, Florida.

Rod is the author of two books: “Fighting the Odds: The Life of Senator Frank Church,” which he wrote with Historian LeRoy Ashby, and a novel, “The Good Assassin.”

Rod is an Idaho native. He graduated from the University of Idaho with a degree in Journalism and History. He and his wife, Julie, have been married for 39 years. She is a marriage and family therapist in Boise. They have two adult children, Jennifer, who is working on her doctorate at the University of Wisconsin, and Robert, who is an associate director of the Atlantic Council in Washington, D.C.

Shawna Walz

Shawna is an experienced and accomplished business leader, including 12 years as an executive with Oregon-based Nike in various leadership capacities. Shawna is the founder of the Idaho Diaper Bank, a non-profit organization collaborating with community partners throughout Idaho to meet the basic needs of Idaho children and families.

Shawna is a fourth-generation Idahoan who grew up and attended public schools in Boise. She holds a B.S. in Psychology from Boise State University and a Master’s in Business Administration from The George Washington University in Washington, D.C.  Competing for Boise State, Ms. Walz was a Big Sky Conference Women’s golf champion.

She is also a graduate of the Nike Executive Leadership Development Program (Xcelerate). She has a certificate from DePaul University and William Bridges Change and Transition Management in Chicago.

Shawna was nominated for the Idaho Business Review’s Woman of the Year Award in 2015 and 2016 and earned a place in the IBR Circle of Excellence. This spring she was named one of four women nationally as a Mother of Achievement Honoree from American Mothers, Inc.

Shawna, her husband, and their two sons enjoy spending time in the great Idaho outdoors.
